Seven Things You Must Not Clean With Soda

Baking soda is a faithful helper, not only for the preparation of various delicacies in cooking but also for cleaning stubborn stains and surfaces at home. You probably use it for that too. However, there are seven things you should not clean with soda. Not only will you fail, but you can also harm them with soda. See what they are:

  1. Ceramic hotplates. The stove or hotplate gets dirty while cooking. However, do not clean them with soda afterwards, as it may damage the ceramic surface. It leaves traces and sharp, white lines that will damage the function of the hob.
  2. Aluminium dishes – here, it is important to note that you can clean household utensils for cooking with soda, but you need to rinse them very well. The reaction between soda and aluminium can damage the latter, so a good wash is essential. So, if you don’t have anything on hand, you can also clean aluminium dishes with baking soda. However, to preserve their colour and functionality, rinse them perfectly afterwards.
  3. Windows – do not try to clean glass surfaces with soda – windows, mirrors, etc. Soda will scratch them; even if you wash them with water afterwards, the traces will not disappear.
  4. Marble surfaces – soda is prohibited here because it damages the top layer of marble. In addition to damaging the aesthetic appearance of the tiles, it could cause cracks to form into which bacteria and germs can enter.
  5. Wooden surfaces – do not treat your wooden furniture with soda. The only thing you will achieve is to damage it and spoil its aesthetic appearance.
  6. Old silver – we know about the famous method of bleaching silver jewellery with soda. However, soda can harm by removing its coating.
  7. Plastic surfaces – do not even think of cleaning anything plastic with soda, especially technical appliances at home. Soda will do them lasting damage!

How to bleach curtains

Curtains are the finishing touch to any room. Their primary role is to give comfort, warmth and beauty to the home and complement the interior.

Curtains contribute to bringing style to the room, but for this purpose, for their proper maintenance, you must take care. Some factors can damage the appearance of your favourite curtains – dust, improper laundry or sunlight. The latter factor is the most unpleasant, as it sometimes causes irreversible yellow spots on the curtains. Prolonged exposure to the sun can form unwanted yellowed areas along with the curtains. Even after washing, the stains remain.

At first glance, they are not noticeable, but in the process of ironing, they stand out significantly. Combined with the accumulation of dust, white curtains can turn grey. Here’s how to whiten curtains effectively!

Prepare bleach, homemade liquid soap, and baking soda to remove unwanted yellow stains on the curtains. First, you must prepare the solution by adding baking soda and detergent to the water in equal proportions. To do this, fill a glass with 100 g of baking soda, then add 100 ml of soap. Immerse the curtains in the water completely.

Leave the curtains to soak for half a day. Half an hour after immersion, you will notice how the process of whitening the yellowed curtain is activated. You can prolong the soaking if you do not notice a difference after this time.
When the period is over, you need to rinse the curtain well and add it to the drum of the washing machine to finish the wash. From now on, you act like a regular laundry – add powder or gel, then bleach. You need a temperature of 60 degrees for washing.

By including the two curtain whitening procedures, the whole process of cleaning the fabric can take an entire day. However, you will achieve remarkable results and have curtains like new ones.

The use of bleach

The qualities of bleach are well known, and every housewife, even in a dream, can list at least some of the benefits of the magic preparation. A 10% aqueous solution can wash plinths, toilets and playgrounds, and a 5% solution can disinfect clothes and dishes.
It removes stains from white underwear and clothes. By the way, few people know it is preferable to bleach clothes in cold water before washing them.

Glassware

If you have beautiful glassware with various dishes and want to serve them at a special dinner or have already done it and put them back in the closet, help them shine. Few people know that adding 1 tsp. bleach in the soap solution in which you wash the glassware will make them shine with purity. Rinse very well and dry with microfibre or a soft towel.

The trash can

People must remember that the trash can at home also needs cleaning and disinfection. You can do it easily with bleach. First, rinse it well from the remaining debris particles. Then, depending on the size of the basket, add 1/2 or 1 teacup of bleach in about 3-3.5 litres of warm water and a few drops of dishwashing detergent. Leave for a few minutes and rinse. Remember to wear gloves. You can also get a cleaning brush to clean the basket’s walls conveniently. Rinse well and allow to dry.

Gardening tools

If you are a novice gardener who desires to keep your yard in great shape, you have probably already acquired a set of garden tools, without which this would be impossible. Here is a piece of advice from us: clean the tools with bleach, so you will be sure they are immaculate and disinfected. That will eliminate the chance of bacteria growing on the plants. Take a suitable container, pour a litre of water and 1/2 tsp. bleach. Put the tools in the solution, and leave for a few minutes. Rinse and dry on a soft towel. The last step is lubricating them with mineral oil, preventing rust. Garden tools will be brand new!

Mould on the tiles in the bathroom

If an unpleasant mould has appeared on the tiles in the bathroom, an aqueous solution of bleach will help to get rid of it. Mix equal amounts of bleach and warm water (bleach may be one idea less). Treat the areas with mould, leave for 5 minutes, rub with a brush and rinse. You can clean the joints in the bathroom with the same solution, but it will be more convenient if you use a spray. Spray the joints, leave for 15 minutes and rub with a toothbrush. Rinse well with warm water.

Cleaning the refrigerator

Clean the refrigerator of mould, stains, bacteria and odours with a solution of 4 teacups of water and 4 tbsp. bleach. Apply it with a soft cloth to the affected areas in the refrigerator, leave for 15 minutes and rinse.

Unclogging of water channels

You do not need to buy different duct cleaners if you encounter this problem. Bleach will help you in this situation. Make a solution of 2 tbsp. bleach and one teacup of hot water. Pour directly into the channel. It’s good to do it in the evening and leave it overnight. In the morning, run clean water. You can do this procedure monthly to keep the sewer clean and reduce the risk of clogging.

Four Weird Cleaning Tricks That Work

Nowadays, everyone, like it or not, has become an expert in cleaning. From all sorts of places and social media, we are constantly reading and watching tips and tricks for cleaning – from videos on TikTok through DIY videos on YouTube to exciting and unexpected ideas on Pinterest and Instagram. The rich and varied information makes it easy to sift out what is useful.

Probably everyone has tried at least once a cleaning trick, which at first seemed easy to apply and effective, but turned out to be a total failure. And this is entirely normal. We are human beings, and it is in our nature to have an affinity for purity and beauty. Therefore we often want to try all the interesting tricks, tips and products that promise to make achieving these goals more manageable. To help you out, here are some of the weirdest cleaning tricks that work. And we explain precisely why they are so effective.

But if you need professional cleaning, you can always seek the help of a professional to clean your home.

Ketchup and bananas for cleaning silver surfaces

Cleaning jewellery can be stressful, especially if you have precious items you do not want to ruin. However, cleaning them, you know, often leads to considerable additional costs. There is a much more budget-friendly and no less effective way to make the silver jewellery or utensils you own shine again.

Strange but true – ketchup, surprisingly, is one of those products that will restore the lustre of silver. How? Just pour some of the product into a plate or other convenient container and place the silver object in it until completely immersed. Leave it to stand for 10 minutes. Then remove and rinse the silver with warm water.

Another weird trick for cleaning jewellery and silverware is using bananas and banana peels. Just mash the fruit to form a slurry. Then use it to clean the product.

Toothpaste for cleaning mirrors

Scratches on glass and mirror surfaces are unpleasant, as it is often impossible to return the surface to its original state. However, there is an interesting trick that helps in this endeavour. For this, you will need a little toothpaste and a soft towel. However, it is crucial to what toothpaste you use. For maximum effect, rely on traditional toothpaste with gentle abrasive properties. Once you’ve made sure you’ve chosen the right one, apply some of it to the scratched surface. Then use a towel to spread it on the glass or mirror you are cleaning.
You can use a toothbrush to clean hard-to-reach cracks or joints.

Forget about expensive disinfectants

We are all familiar with expensive cleaners, disinfectants, wet wipes, and other cleaning products. However, no matter how effective, standard cleaners often damage the surfaces in the home or make our hands dry because of the toxic elements they contain. You can rely on “grandma’s” cleaning recipes as their safer alternative.

  • To disinfect your home, you can use 70% isopropyl alcohol and a microfibre or paper towel.
  • Diluting bleach in a ratio of 1/3 cup of bleach to a litre of water can also do a great job.
  • Vinegar or lemon diluted in water is also a good “cleanser”.
  • Soda is one of the most versatile and effective cleaning products.

Use gloves sparingly for cleaning

Did you know that cleaning gloves are more harmful than helpful, especially if you use them more than once or twice? That is because they carry a lot of microbes on them, which we, in turn, carry everywhere we go.

The better and much more helpful alternative to rubber gloves is water. Instead of using gloves, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least a minute after cleaning. Then apply a moisturiser.

If we have inspired you for new experiments, now is the time to do them! If you prefer more traditional cleaning methods, seek the help of a professional to make your home irresistible.

Which places in the home are ideal for developing microbes, and how to clean them?

Indeed, the desire for a cleaner home is ingrained in each of us. Especially nowadays, when good hygiene can save us from infection. Washing our hands is of great importance (not that before 2020 it was less recommended, but now we are paying much more attention).

Besides maintaining excellent personal hygiene, maintaining home cleanliness is also essential. However, there are some items to which we need to pay more attention. We will show you which they are and how to clean them well. However, if your home needs a thorough cleaning, you can always contact the proven specialists in the field registered with us.

Air humidifier

Humidifiers are present in most homes. Especially people who have allergies need them. And they are also a good option for those who heat with air conditioners. With their help, we create a far healthier environment. However, not when they are contaminated. And then what should we do?

Regular humidifier maintenance is one of the first steps in cleaning it. Just as you regularly wash the filters of air conditioners (if you do not – change this), the humidifier needs regular maintenance.
Note that each humidifier works with water. It, in turn, is an ideal environment for developing all kinds of microorganisms that are not useful to you. Start changing it often. Leave one dose for a short time. However, there will need to be more.

The best way to clean the humidifier is vinegar. Pour into the container an amount that will at least cover the bottom. With swirling movements, ensure the vinegar passes through all the walls. Leave for a few minutes, and then rinse with clean water. It is good to repeat this procedure at least twice a month.

Regular cleaning of the phone

Extremely unpleasant fact: Your phone can contain many more microbes than a toilet bowl. A large amount of dirt remains on display for a long time, which will not positively affect your hygiene. That’s why you should take care of your phone.

The most versatile way to clean your device is with a damp cloth. It is important to be careful and gently clean the areas around the headset and microphone.

It is good to repeat this procedure at least once a day. However, if you use your phone constantly, it is best to apply cleaning three times daily. You also need to clean the remote control for your TV and the computer mouse.

Candles

Yes, candles bring great comfort to our homes and are universal means of decoration. However, they also have a considerable disadvantage – they retain too much dust, which is extremely difficult to remove. We are sure that you have wondered how to remove the grey layer from the candle’s surface at least once. Well, now we will share with you a little secret that will make your mission easier:

  • You will need paper and some water at room temperature.
  • Wet the paper. It should be limited. The goal is to moisturise slightly.
  • Then go very carefully on the surface of the candle. If the dust is stubborn, you can apply a little pressure.
  • It is good to apply this procedure at least once a week.

Shower cleaning

The shower also needs regular cleaning. Its contamination can lead to clogging. It, in turn, can affect the reduction of pressure and water flow, even more so if you are in a region with a lot of calcareous water, accumulating scale daily. And how to deal with it?

  • Turn the showerhead.
  • Pour enough vinegar into a plastic bag.
  • Soak the shower in the bag and tie it. The idea is to limit the ingress of air as much as possible.
  • Soak it for at least an hour. It is good to be more if you have such an opportunity.

How many times to apply this procedure depends entirely on your water quality. If it is alkaline, you will need it much more often.
We often forget some hidden corners in our homes that are full of germs. It is always good to notice every element in our house, which can be an ideal environment for the development of bacteria. And if you need professional assistance cleaning your home, you can always contact the specialists registered with us. Make a free project request. You will receive several offers to compare and choose the most suitable.

Dealing with Spills and Smashes While Cleaning Your House

Accidents will happen, the old quote says.  No matter how careful you are or how good your sense of balance is, you will have an accident of some sort at some time or other.  And you will end up with (at best) a spill of something or (at worst) smashed glass and a hard-to-clean spill all over the place.

What causes spills?  The quick answer is a combination of the law of gravity plus a few other laws of physics, such as friction, momentum, surface tension, etc.  As it’s hard to pinpoint a cause, it’s hard to say how to prevent them.  You should use your common sense and not stack things that spill or are breakable (or anything, come to that) very high on top of a narrow base or shelf.

The primary rule for any spill or smash is to act quickly.  Whatever it is, it will get worse the longer you leave it.  Even if you haven’t got a liquid or something staining to clean up, solid objects can (and will) get kicked, blown or scattered further if you leave them.

Non-staining liquids:  Blot up the excess moisture with a paper towel, tea towel or even an ordinary towel.  This is usually all you need to do for water. Still, if the liquid you have got all over the floor will leave a residue that could become unpleasant (nearly everything except water – milk and lemonade are two common examples), then you will need to wash off the excess.  Use a damp cloth and soapy water for hard surfaces such as lino, then dry.  Pour a little warm soapy water onto the place for carpets before blotting up the excess.  This will float the spilt liquid to the top.  Then blot as usual and leave to dry.

Staining liquids – Act immediately!  Never let the liquid dry, or the stain will set.  Flood the spill with more liquid – soapy water will do for most spills, but for red wine, it’s best to “flood” this with white wine or else to sprinkle salt over the stain.  After flooding the stain to dilute the offender and bring it to the surface, blot it off.  If the stain is particularly stubborn, you may need to scrub it lightly, especially on carpets.

Broken crockery or glass:  Make sure that you wear footwear – never clean up broken glass when your feet are bare.  Sweep the broken pieces into a heap, working from the outside towards “ground zero”.  It’s incredible how far particles fly when something smashes, so always start your inward sweep from further out than the pieces you can see.  Don’t use a vacuum cleaner to pick up large pieces – they are hazardous and can damage vacuum cleaner bags (not to mention you when you empty a vacuum cleaner bag or container).  If a piece of crockery or china has broken into large pieces, you may be able to glue it back together again, but don’t try to repair broken glass.  Once you have swept the breakage together, use a dustpan and brush to collect them.  Wrap the product in old newspaper before putting the broken glass out into the rubbish – most places I have encountered do not recycle broken glass.  Then vacuum the area to catch any slivers of broken glass or china.

The worst spill I have encountered involved a child dropping a glass jar full of jam – broken glass and sticky jam to deal with.  In this case, I scooped up the broken glass with several layers of newspaper, as fortunately, the jam had stopped the glass from flying everywhere.  This mess of jam and glass was wrapped up and binned pronto.  Then, once I had made sure I had gotten rid of the glass, I used a cloth and soapy water to wash all the jam residue off the linoleum before drying it.  At least I didn’t have to deal with blood from any cuts!
